"If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with"*

Writer's picture: Yesim NicholsonYesim Nicholson

Yes, these are song lyrics about romantic relationships, but they can also be applied to your work situation.

This is a little reminder from me to you that if you're currently in a job you don't love so much, but feel like you can't leave right now (for whatever the reason), then your absolute best option is to love it as much as possible.

Because the alternative is dreading every working day. NOT FUN!

So how do you love your work when it's super stressful, your boss is mean, your organisation's culture is toxic, you're bored and not being challenged?

The key is to shift your focus to the positives, and even if you feel like there is absolutely nothing good about your work, I challenge you to start finding the tiny things in your working day that are actually ok...and maybe even quite good.

Is one of your colleagues also a really good friend that you can have a laugh with?

Does your boss give you regular praise?

Do you have a nice view from you desk?

Can you take time off whenever you want/need to?

Are you learning lots in your job?

Do you get to travel to exciting places?

Making a conscious effort to find and take note of the positives will have an almost immediate effect on how you feel about your work. You're likely to be less anxious, and might even find that you enjoy certain aspects of your working day.

And that is a much better foundation to make your future career decisions on!

Do let me know how you get on...I always LOVE hearing from you, and I respond to every email (hello@yescareercoaching.com) I receive.

If you'd like some help with your next career move, I'm here for you.

You can always book some time to discuss what you need help with, or book some 1-2-1 sessions with me here

In other news...Have you read 'Ready to quit your job?'

Want to "hang out" with a bunch of nice people who have also read the book?
